Twitter spambots are getting smarter

I made the bottom tweet yesterday. A network of spambots picked it up and have been repeating my tweet from different accounts at different intervals. It’s still going – 14 tweets from 14 different accounts! Just awful… if spambots can pass the Turing test, Twitter has big problems on their hands.

Those spambots don’t come anywhere close to the Turing test. They don’t even pass the Parrot test (which doesn’t exist formally but I hereby claim eternal credit for inventing if it ever does): a parrot doesn’t really understand what it’s saying, but it’ll mix the words up a little to see what gets a reaction.

And I don’t understand this at all. Any insight into what the spammers hope to accomplish here? Any clue what about that tweet caught their attention?
