Financial and Political News

McCain vs. Obama by Thomas Hawk
Thanks to the financial crisis (that I think is far from over) and the impending presidential election, I’ve been completely distracted from tech news. Frankly, it just doesn’t seem important compared to what’s going to happen to our country and the world we live in.

So in lieu of sharing my thoughts about tech, I thought I’d pass along links to sites that I read that keep me up to speed with what’s happening.

For general political news, Politico is pretty good. For a more raw flood of political news, there is NewsJunk. For those looking for a Democratic slant (and other good tech writings), Dave Winer’s blog Scripting News is a good one. For a very smart, yet different, point of view, Mark Cuban’s Blog Maverick blog has been very insightful. Oh, and for those of us who love data, you gotta check out Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight blog (yes, the same guy who runs my favorite baseball site, Baseball Prospectus).

For financial news, there are two really great sites. One is Paul Kedrosky’s Infectious Greed blog, which has incredible amounts of insightful data and analysis of what’s going on. A newer one, run by the smart Henry Blodget, is Clusterstock. Henry Blodget also runs Silicon Alley Insider, which is mostly tech news but mixes in a fair amount of financial / political news when relevant to tech.

If you know of any other “must read” blogs, please share them in the comments!

Calculated Risk is a very good one for financial, it appears to be written by an insider on the financial industry: http://calculatedrisk.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the links. I can’t get the FiveThreeEight link to work though.
